Meeting 313 Bread Tasting Speaker: Frank de Mengel
Friday 18th April 2008 Neville Hall, Waltham St Lawrence

And now for an evening with a difference.
Frank is a long-time friend of the Mair's and is head of the Bakery Department at the Hospitality and Catering section of Westminster Kingsway College. He has offered to share with us his knowledge and expertise on the subject of bread making. He will provide us with eight different breads to taste, including Italian rustic, spelt & rye mix and walnut and sultana bread. Frank will also explain the history of bread-making and describe the range of flours and doughs that make up these breads.
We will be providing wines selected from the Majestic range to complement the breads, including a manzanilla Pastrana sherry, Gewurtztraminer Turckheim, a Chilean pinot noir and a Portuguese Tinto da Anfora. We will conclude with a 10 year old Tawny Port to accompany the petit fours - bread-based, of course! Dips, smoked salmon, lamb in a brioche herb crust and a selection of cheeses will allow you to taste the breads at their best.
Having been privileged to sample all of these items at a meal prepared by Frank in his own home, I can assure you that you are in for a fascinating evening. My only advice is not to eat too much for lunch that day!
The aperitif will be served from 7.40 pm with the meeting starting promptly at 8.00.
